The guy who makes those shelves is Jim Rosenau, who I worked with for a couple of years at my very first computer startup, Books That Work, the only computer company I've ever been to that had in-house carpenters as domain experts.
I used to sit with Jim and talk about how joists fit together with other boards to make banisters and decks and things, and try to turn his carpenter's rules of thumb into C++ functions. He's also a comedy writer.
